( Story Behind the Name )
The Empress Eugenie Diamond, a 51-carat oval brilliant gem, was named after Empress Eugenie of France, who received it as a bridal gift from Napoleon III.
Discovered in Brazil around 1760, the diamond was once owned by Catherine the Great of Russia and later became part of the French Crown Jewels.
Following the fall of the Second Empire, the diamond was sold and eventually acquired by Maharaja Malharrao Gaekwad of Baroda around 1870 for $75,000, becoming one of the most treasured jewels in the royal collection.
