( Story Behind the Name )
Sir T. Madhavrao (1828–1891) was a distinguished Indian statesman and administrator, celebrated for his progressive reforms and exemplary governance.
He served as the Dewan of Travancore, Indore, and Baroda, where his visionary leadership helped modernize these princely states through significant advancements in education, agriculture, and industry.
During his tenure as the Dewan of Baroda (1875–1882), he mentored the young Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, guiding him in matters of administration and reform. In recognition of his service, he was conferred the title of “Raja” in 1877.
A man of intellect and integrity, Sir T. Madhavrao also authored “Minor Hints” — a collection of lectures that continue to serve as a timeless guide to governance and statesmanship.
